George Porter Jr. Trio w/Joe Marcinek @ Heist – Barrel Arts
THUR – 12/12 | TICKETS

One of the founding members of funk pioneers The Meters, George Porter Jr. continues to tour relentlessly in his later year and shows no signs of slowing down.  He’ll bring his touring trio into Charlotte with support from guitarist Joe Marcinek.

Few bass players in the history of modern New Orleans music are as storied as George Porter Jr.

Porter’s rhythmic work in the Meters in lockstep with drummer Zigaboo Modeliste was epic. Those pockets, the long notes and fat holes, provided the cushion for Leo Nocentelli or Art Neville to play or sing over and created some of R&B history’s most memorable grooves.

Charlotte’s own AKITA is tapped as special guest.

Julian Davis & The Situation @ Divine Barrel Brewing
FRI – 12/13 | FREE SHOW

Young bluegrass picker Julian Davis will bring his current touring group The Situation into Charlotte for two area shows in December.

A touring musician since 2016, Julian got his big break opening for the Jeff Austin Band (JAB) in St. Louis in November of 2018.  Two months later Jeff tapped Julian to join him on the road as the new lead guitarist in JAB.

With Jeff’s untimely passing in June of 2019, Julian and his band have released a live LP and hit the road playing a mix of jam grass and traditional bluegrass featuring a mix of original songs and timeless covers.

Can’t make the Friday show?  Julian Davis & The Situation will play another free show at The Vinyl Pi in Huntersville on Saturday 12/14.

paris_monster @ Heist Brewery
WED – 12/18 | FREE SHOW

Beat-driven. Employing heavy elements of funk and soul, paris_monster closes the gaps between synth-pop & garage; between modern detail and old-school grit. Solid earth. Soaring soundscapes. A mass of noise. Volatility. Vocal singularity.

“….it was the opening set from paris_monster that literally dropped the jaws of both ticket-holders and Turkuaz members alike. The duo creates a heavily textured sound drawing on ambient electronic experimentation that fuses with R&B vocals and a technically precise execution that feels like watching a magic show.” – Jambase

Tyler Childers @ The Fillmore
THUR – 12/19 | SOLD OUT – check FB event for tix

Grammy nominated country star Tyler Childers will play a sold out Fillmore show in support of his most recent LP Country Squire.

Jon Stickley Trio & Old Salt Union @ Heist Brewery
THUR – 12/19 | TICKETS

Jon Stickley Trio is a genre-defying and cinematic instrumental trio, who’s deep grooves, innovative flatpicking, and sultry-spacy violin moves the listener’s head, heart, and feet.

It’s not your father’s acoustic-guitar music—instead, Stickley’s Martin churns out a mixture of bluegrass, Chuck Berry, metal, prog, grunge, and assorted other genres.

Old Salt Union is a string band cultivated by classically trained musicians.  It is this collision of styles and musical vocabularies that informs their fresh approach to bluegrass and gives them an electric live performance vibe that seems to pull more from Vaudeville than the front porch.
