Charlotte based jam act, Pluto Gang, continue to pump out new music in 2020 and dropped their new single “Wildfire” yesterday.
Released under their own label, Dwarf Planet Records, this is the groups third single of 2020 and plan to release a debut LP, Better Out Here, in the fall. “Moggy Oxvine” and “Plasmodesmata” were released earlier in the year and the sextet has gained substantial traction on Spotify with over 140,000+ streams and counting across the two singles.
A primordial statement of the band’s roots, “Wildfire” blends nostalgic tones derived from the monumental guitarists of the Seventies with the revolutionary soul movement of the American Southeast, reminiscent of Muscle Shoals.
Narrating the story of guitarist Wood Britton’s own journey with the existential questions of mind and spirit is Brennan Beck’s driving vocal performance. Along with Beck’s lead, the group’s choral harmonies and wailing lead guitars create a powerful medium through which the soulful plea is collectively lifted to the cosmos.
“Wildfire” is now streaming on all major platforms and can be accessed below.

Pluto Gang, comprised of Brennan Beck (Vocals), Dillon Crawford (Guitar, Vocals), Wood Britton (Guitar), Joe May (Keyboards, Vocals), Pat Rogers (Bass), Wilson Smith (Percussion), is a local band that will certainly stay on our radar after listening to their first two offerings.
The young six-piece band has successfully manned the middle ground between traditional southern soul, driven by a lead vocalist, and the contemporary jam scene. Their sound fuses funk rhythms, progressive rock leads, and jazz-influenced textures along with Brennan Beck’s rich vocals.
With all members contributing nearly three decades of experience from prior bands, often times collaborating with one another in the past, Pluto Gang took orbit in the summer of 2019 when guitarist Dillon Crawford moved to Charlotte, allowing the band to become a full-time project.
After a successful liftoff period playing local shows and unifying around a new catalog of original music, Pluto Gang made their public studio debut in January 2020 with the aforementioned release of “Moggy Oxvine” and “Plasmodesmata”.
